What is cobay?
cobay is one AI agent for Shopify stores that both sells (recommends products, rescues carts) and supports (order status, returns, shipping) — with one shared memory of every customer, so the sale and the support ticket are never separate conversations.
How long does setup take?
Minutes. Connect your Shopify store from the dashboard, cobay imports your catalog automatically, then you paste one line of code into your theme. No flows to build, no scripts to write, no engineering ticket.
Do I need a developer to install it?
No. The install is a single script tag pasted into your Shopify theme layout (Online Store → Themes → Edit code). If you can edit theme.liquid, you can install cobay — and the docs walk you through it step by step.
Do I need Shopify?
Yes. cobay is built for D2C brands on Shopify. It reads your real catalog, prices, inventory, and orders so answers are grounded and never invented.
Can I use cobay today?
cobay is in closed beta. Join the waitlist at cobay.ai/waitlist and we invite brands as we open up spots.
How much does cobay cost?
Three plans, all public: Starter is $0 — free forever with 500 conversations a month. Growth is $99/month with 10,000 conversations. Scale is $499/month with unlimited conversations. No per-resolution meter, no overage math.
How does billing work?
cobay is billed through Shopify, so the charge appears on your regular Shopify invoice — no separate card on file. Upgrade, downgrade, or cancel anytime from your Shopify admin.
How does the free trial work?
Growth and Scale include a 14-day free trial handled by Shopify. You approve the charge when you pick the plan, pay nothing for 14 days, and can cancel during the trial without being billed. Starter needs no trial — it is free forever.
What counts as a conversation?
One shopper chat thread in a calendar month — however many messages it takes. If a shopper asks 40 questions in one chat, that is one conversation, not 40. Quick pings that the agent never answers are not counted.
What happens if I hit my conversation cap?
Your agent keeps working and we flag it in your dashboard and by email, then help you decide whether to move up a plan. There are no automatic overage charges and we will never quietly switch off your agent mid-month.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. No contracts and no lock-in. Cancel from your Shopify admin or simply uninstall the app — Shopify stops the billing, and your data is deleted per our privacy policy.
Will it make things up to my customers?
No. Every answer is grounded in your real Shopify data and the knowledge you add — cobay never invents orders, prices, stock levels, or policies. When it does not know, it says so and hands off to a human instead of improvising.
How do I train it?
Your catalog trains itself — products, prices, inventory, and policies sync from Shopify automatically. For everything else (shipping cutoffs, sizing, brand FAQs), paste the text into Dashboard → Knowledge and the agent picks it up.
Can I make it match my brand?
Yes. You set the agent name, tone, and brand colors from the dashboard, and the widget updates on your storefront automatically. On Growth and up you get full brand customization and can remove the cobay badge.
What happens when it cannot answer?
It hands off. Escalations land in your dashboard queue with the reason, the full conversation, and the shopper’s contact details, so a human can pick up cleanly. Recurring escalations show you exactly what knowledge to add next.
What channels does it work on?
Today, one: a chat widget on your Shopify storefront, installed with one line of code. We would rather do one channel excellently than five badly — future surfaces will share the same brain and memory.
What data does cobay read from my store?
Your catalog (products, prices, inventory, policies) and live order status for support questions. Shopify shows you the exact scope when you connect, and you can revoke access anytime from your Shopify admin.
How is customer data protected?
Staff access to customer personal data is audit-logged, GDPR data requests and deletions are handled automatically through Shopify’s compliance webhooks, and uninstalling deletes your data per our privacy policy. The privacy policy, DPA, and security pages spell out the details.
